Countless names of great boxing fighters have been forecasted to beat the Philippine’s boxing pride Manny “Pacman” Pacquiao. But it has been evident. No one has matched the world’s number one pound for pounds’ speed and power. No one yet for now, that is.
But over the previous fights, what has been continuously mentioned and seen by boxing enthusiasts, critics, coaches and fans all over the world is the fighter’s speed.
Standing 5’6 1/2″, a height that is more than adequate for Asians, Manny Pacquiao has fought fighters that were not only leaner but taller than him. Juan Manual Marquez was 5 ft 7 in, not really that taller than Manny but more aggressive and a counter puncher. He was dubbed to be the one who will end the winning streak of Manny Pacquiao.
The second Pacquiao vs Marquez fight was one of the most anticipated fights. The first one ended up in a draw and the next Pacman won by unanimous decision. Not really the TKO that Pacquiao’s team wanted it to be. This was said to be because of Juan Manuel Marquez‘ advantage of his height.
But “The Pacman” has taken his height as an advantage. He is lighter thus faster. His previous opponents have tried to, if not transcend, at least match his speed. But to their dismay.
That is why on the third and upcoming Pacquiao vs Marquez fight this October 2011, Juan Manuel Marquez is taking a different approach. It should be a fight showing Pacman’s speed versus the Marquez’ agility.
Hall of fame boxing trainer Ignacio “Nacio” Beristain mentioned in an interview with a local newspaper that it’s not on the speed but on how each of Pacquiao’s move would be paralleled by his opponents. According to him, it’s not on how fast the body scuffles but on how quick the mind shifts to throw a counter attack.
The third Pacquiao vs Marquez fight would be phenomenal regardless if who wins.
If Pacman wins, he will continue to be the world’s greatest for his era. He will add another title to his 7 consecutive wins.
If Marquez wins, then he would catch the whole world’s attention as the triumphant fighter who finally surmounted Pacquiao from his triumphant throne.
It is truly a fight to look forward to. Both camps have been getting ready. Both parties have been hinting on what to expect. Respective coaches, trainer s and supporters have been bragging here and there and cheering on left and right.
